I suppose I shouldn't be doing this, opening a can of other-than-cooking-worms, but words can't describe my shock that something actually DOES remove soap scum from the shower.

Ingredients
  • Commercial spray bottles of ANYTHING don't work
  • bottles, cans, bars of any type of cleaning agent don't work
  • WD40 removes about half the soap scum, but leaves a smelly, oily mess
  • steel wool takes soap scum off the shower wall and glass, but also removes the finish
  • dynamite doesn't remove soap scum, it simple spreads the shower throughout the house
  • Mr. Clean magic eraser DOES remove soap scum. I'm so shocked I don't know what to say

Directions
  1. Since running water was discovered, man has soiled his cleaning station with no way to clean it. Wizards, alchemists, housewives, and modern chemists have all failed to find a way to remove soap scum from anything ... a tub, a tile shower, a glass shower, a plastic shower, or a garden hose. Soap scum sticks to everything and does NOT come off. I don't mean this to be a product endorsement, but there IS something on the market that works. Really works. Doesn't just say it works (like all the others) ... it actually removes soap scum from the tub or shower. It's a little white sponge called Mr. Clean magic eraser. Wet it and rub it across the soap scum. You can feel the resistance and see a difference in the wake of your swipe. After one or two swipes you'll feel the resistance disappear, and the surface look different. When you are all done and the shower is dry you will see something you have never seen in your entire life. The soap scum will be gone. No bologna. Really gone, not there anymore. I know it's hard to believe, I'm still having trouble believing it.

Actually, thanks a lot for this one. We have this shower glass door that I hate to clean!

Yep....these little gems are miraculous...and ya know what?? The heavy-duty ones actually clean that grey-gray-blackish crap off the face of your eaves troughs -- an area that is kinda hard to use any elbow grease!!
Our house is stucco & we had to paint it this year, but the eaves looked terrible once we were done (washing, cleaners, nothing worked!). I'd heard of using Magic Erasers on it so I tried -- and it worked!!

I love the magic erasers but I can't scrub a shower or bath tub very well so I use Tilex Soap Scum remever. I just spray it on wait about 5 minutes then use my hand held shower and rinse it off. No scrubbing and it looks great!

Never tried these but will. Do they smell strong? I get terrible migraines from cleaning products.

Way to go! Great Post! Anything to make cleaning less time consuming is up my alley.

Thanks so much....I'll let my other half know...That's his job......LOL.....:)

You should do a commercial.....

I just bought a pack of these but haven't tried them. Bathroom gets tackled tonight! I am optomistic....

I'm going to try this! Thanks for the post!!!

Cathy

I love these things!!! They work on almost everything!!

I use these for everything else in the house, but never thought about using them on my shower doors. It's the biggest job I despise, with a 5 foot glass shower and your advice I'm kind of excited to try this out. (sick I know) Thanks for the awesome advice:o)

Magic Erasers will also:
1. Make the white on sneakers look like brand new shoes!
2. Take crayon, ballpoint pen, shoe polish induced scuffmarks, the tire tracks from hot wheels cars off walls! I've personally removed all of these types of markings from my walls, to include various multicolor marks of unknown origins.
3. Clean up plastic toys great, like new.
4. Even cleans wallpaper WITHOUT harming the paper!

Great post!!!!

First..Yes you should be doing this non-cooking thing...everyone does on this site! There are even a few groups, but why limit to groups..share to all I say!
Second..Magic Erasers are God's gift to man/womankind. I use them EVERYWHERE! Use to smoke in house..cleaned the walls, counters, cabinets everything. Use them on patio furniture, USE THEM FIRST AND ALWAYS!!!
MONEY SAVING TIP: YOU WILL BECOME ADDICTED TO THEM AND NEED MANY..BUY THEM AT SAM'S, BJ'S, COSCO IN BULK. THEY WONT LAST, BUT YOU WILL SAVE MONEY!

Great tip tillia! (I'm a Sam's member) I bought Magic Eraser when it first came out and didn't really use it until I saw your recipe for a clean shower, cabincrazyone. I tried it yesterday and was shocked and felt like kicking myself. It works great! Well, better late than never...Thanks

I love Mr Clean magic eraser products. The mop is amazing. My mom used my sisters one day and then went t othe store and promptly bought her own. Now I plan on doign the same thing after I saw that baby in action!

What is this magic eraser? does it have chemicals in it? And yes a lot of us do share non edible recipes here :) my motto is a recipe is a recipe.

I'm a BIG FAN!!

I am anxious to try this. Aside from dynamite, which was going to be my next cleaning gambit, I usually tote a pail full of cleaning products into the bathroom and start scrubbing until my fingers bleed. I hate it! But I hate filth more.

I've used the Magic Eraser on scuff marks on my walls, and am pleased to report that not only do they take off the marks, they don't leave a weird stain behind that screams "someone tried to fix this!"

To end soap scum forever use only liquid soap in your bathrooms and bar the soap bar ! ( which is a breeding ground for bacteria any way ) Then a quick spritz of vinegar and a squigee is all you will ever need for a brilliantly sparkly shower box , mirror and basin . The acid in the vinegar will also kill fungas and prevent mould /mildew from developing .

Wonderful!thank you ORF!

LOOOOVE Mr. Clean Magic Erasers (and their generic equivalent). You would not BELIEVE the things that I have cleaned up with them. Definitely a God-send as we live in an apartment with white counters, walls, etc. Thanks for sharing! - Natalie

Thanks for the tip. I fight a mineral deposit. I need to try it on that.

EVERYONE HATES THAT SOAP SCUM THAT YOU JUST CAN'T GET RID OF. THANKS FOR THE TIP. MAYBE I WILL ACTUALLY SEE THE PATTERN IN MY SHOWER DOORS AGAIN. HA,HA,
PAULA

As I read this.It looks really helpful.I may have to do this as well.
