A Keni Cooking Day

  • frankieanne 10 years ago
In honor of the lovely Ms. Keni.
I'll be announcing a day soon. It probably will be on a Saturday, for those of us who work outside the home unless that doesn't work for the majority. She's got a lot of recipes to look through! She loved it when people made her food.

For all of those who do not know...Keni peacefully passed away early this morning. I think this is such a great idea Frankie. It's not like I don't make one of her recipes every other day anyway :) She definitely would love that we are doing this and that so many people care so much about her. Now I just have to figure out which one I'm going to make...

Lovely idea Frankieanne. Count me in. Keni has sooooooo many recipes and I have sooooo many of them bookmarked. She was always so good about not having too many bookmarks. LOL. :)
My condolences to those of you who were close to Keni. It's hard to lose a friend.

    Oh, thanks everyone! How nice!
Well, after a little chat with ml2c, I discovered that Keni's 39th birthday is February 12. So, we decided on February 15. I know that seems like a long way off so I hope its OK with all of you. I see pso has already purchased his ingredients and I don't think they will last that long! I'm sorry, pso!
I guess we can start one thread and everyone can just post what they make to that thread. So, whoever is first on February 15 can post away and the rest of us can follow!
Any input is welcome if someone has other ideas.

I knew her Bday was in February, but didn't know the exact date, but I was thinking of a birthday party as well, but I wanted to leave it to all of you that knew her the longest and best. She sure was special.

  • frankieanne 10 years ago said:
Yeah, if her birthday had been in May or November or something like that we could have scheduled the cooking day sooner. But, as February is really not that far away (already!) it didn't seem like that long to put it off.
Of course, that's not to say no one is allowed to make any of her recipes before February 15! hehe :-P

I'd like to offer up another suggestion in the weeks leading up to Keni's bday party. As you know, Keni LOVED football and making appetizers for it. In the couple of weeks left of this season, Keni has tagged 58 recipes as "football". I'm not suggesting a group party or anything, but if you want something special for those days, you might look here: http://www.grouprecipes.com/people/keni/recipes/newest/tag:football/1

I laugh when you talk about Spice Sage. Keni always tried to get me to go there too, but they were always sold out of the stuff I needed.

Keni left me a different kind of gift. She encouraged me to start some of my own herbs, which I did. I had to buy grow lights, etc. I teased her that she was expensive to have around and I always called them her plants when we chatted. So whatever my selection is, will showcase at least one of Keni's plants.

If I count right - we have 24 people participating! And I can't remember if I counted myself. hehe Maybe I should ask for input. I don't like really long threads so if we have only one thread - well, it could get long. And, if members posted their own individual thread, they could add their pictures to their thread.
I think I'll start a thread and see what everyone wants to do.

Well now that I've read the other thread, I think perhaps it would be better with the multiple threads--one for each recipe. BUT after it's all done, maybe we could have a thread just giving a list/link of all the recipes made.
